Seminar Location: Seminar is held at Joliet Junior College’s Main Campus, Room T-1050, 1215 Houbolt Road, Joliet, Illinois.
Seminar Description: The workshop provides an understanding of electricity focused on increased awareness and prevention of industrial and home accidents.
You will learn
- How voltage, current, and resistance are related, and the effects various amounts of current have on the human body.
- How to identify the factors that influence body resistance to electric shock.
- How the amount of time spent in contact with an electrical circuit will affect the severity of shock.
- The basic safety rules when working around electricity, and the safe loading of circuits.
- How to identify safety considerations when using an extension cord and the proper procedure for inspecting portable electric hand tools.
- To define the purpose of a ground fault interrupter (GFI).
- To identify the correct type of fire extinguisher to use on an electrical fire.
- To identify the need to lock and tag a de-energized circuit before working on the circuit.
- To describe the dangers of static electricity.

Your instructor Jerry Raino is a member of the technical department at Joliet Junior College. He has been an instructor in the Electrical/Electronic Automated Systems program since 1984. He is also an journeyman electrician. Jerry has a B.S. in Vocational Education from Southern Illinois University and a M.S. in Instructional Technology from Northern Illinois University. He is also the co-author of a training manual, Industrial Motors, published by Energy Concepts (1991).
