Real Estate Transactions (WSPD 428) In just 45 classroom hours, you can launch a dynamic new career in the ever-growing real estate industry. This course deals with real estate ownership, contract, agency, title transfer and disclosures, deeds, mortgage instruments, leasing, and State of Illinois licensing law. Real Estate Transactions is designed to equip students to participate successfully in the field of property ownership, management, and sales. A required course for candidates planning to take the Illinois Salesperson License Examination.
Fundamentals in Polysomnography (HCN 440) The program is designed to provide a solid foundation for the sleep technician. Whether new to the field or arriving with experience, the tools gained from this program will help to cultivate an understanding and appreciation for the importance of sleep data collection and analysis process. Develop the skills to collect a quality sleep study with an introduction to polysomnography scoring procedures. Topics include abnormal sleep patterns, collecting an EEG signal, sleep staging, respiratory events, and medications.
Home Inspection Training (BG 615) Launch a lucrative full- or part-time career in home inspection. This course is approved by the State of Illinois and far surpasses state requirements. Taught by leaders in the home inspection industry, this comprehensive program prepares you for the state licensing examination. The course provides instruction of the physical components of a home including soils, foundations, structural components, plumbing, electricity, roofing, heating and air conditioning, and much more. Also covered is home inspection report writing and public policy.
How to be Your Own General Contractor (INDM 100) If you considering building a new home or embarking on a major remodeling project, this seminar that will enable you to be your own general contractor. This fourteen week seminar will allow you to be much more involved in the overall building process. You will be in a better position to assure you will receive a quality job at the best price. Planning and scheduling, creating specifications, understanding the bidding process, working with an architect, building an energy efficient house, reading blueprints, and understanding plumbing, electrical, HVAC, frame construction, masonry, and excavation, are just a sample of what is included in this course.
Administrative Technology (WSPD 599) This program combines personal instruction and on-line study to prepare administrative professionals in today’s automated business environment. Curriculum emphasizes executive office procedures and advanced MS Office technology. Class instruction will prepare the students to take Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access Certification exams. Students may receive up to four Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Certificates. Interactive CD and practice exams will be used.
Bank Teller Training (MGT 816) Joliet Junior College has partnered with the Illinois Bankers Association (IBA) to provide short term training for persons interested in an entry level position in banking. According to the Department of Labor, there are over 500,000 bank teller positions in the country and employment is projected to grow. Bilingual skills are especially in demand. This eight week course focuses on the skills new tellers need in today's banking industry. Topics include the basic functions of the banking industry, defines a teller's responsibility within the bank and the most recent compliance information Learn a variety of daily transaction procedures, how to provide quality customer service, how to recognize counterfeit currency, fraud schemes, and the tricks used by con artists. Learn how to complete Currency Transactions and Suspicious Activity reports, and balance a teller drawer.
Spanish Interpreter Certification Training (WSST 375,376,377) This three part certification program prepares Spanish bilingual speakers to enter the field of oral interpretation. The courses are scheduled so the certification can be earned in one year. Each section consists of 50 hours of classroom instruction and an additional 10 hours of clinical work experience. Program participants will learn interpretation techniques that will enable them to work in an educational, legal or healthcare environment. The majority of the classroom instruction is conducted in Spanish. Training includes oral interpretation exercises, role playing, small group work, vocabulary study, Spanish/English grammar review, presentations, memory enhancing exercises, and a clinical presentation. The sessions are independent of the other, so a student may enroll at the start of any module. All new students will be required to successfully complete an assessment test at the first meeting of their initial class. Student manuals are included in the class fee.
Security Officer Basic Training (WSPD 644) Are you interested in finding a career in the security field as an unarmed security guard or would you like to enhance your present job skills and earn state certification? Security officer basic training will prepare new security officers and experienced employees for employment with a certified agency under the Illinois Private Detective, Private Security and Private Alarm Act. This training meets the requirements of the Illinois State Mandate for 20 hour unarmed private security training.
Introduction to AutoCAD (GRAF 1031) This 16-hour, hands-on class provides an introduction to the Computer Aided Design Drafting (CADD) industry. Learn the procedures for setting up and developing two dimensional AutoCAD drawings. Focus on coordinating input systems, basic drafting, editing, and detailing methods. Discuss scaling, annotation, and dimensioning. Determine the responsibilities of a CADD designer in today’s industrial and architectural environments. The class is limited to 14 students. Prerequisites: Basic understanding of computers with Windows 2000/XP operating system. Knowledge of blue prints and drafting is not required but helpful.
Substance Abuse Care and Counseling Career Overview (HCN 442) Gain an understanding of the course work necessary to become a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) in the State of Illinois. Understand the licensing process in the state as administered by the Illinois Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association, Inc. (IAODAPCA). Topics include assessment criteria, treatment levels, mandated individuals, mental illness and addiction, medications, recovery process and after care. Discuss the qualifications for the newest industry certification, Certified Associate Addictions Professional (CAAP). Your instructor is a CADC currently working in the field of addiction who will describe the experiences and life examples of a day in the life of a CADC.
Legal Nurse Consultant Training Course (CERT 600) The Legal Nurse Consultant (LNC) training program prepares RNs and Physicians’ Assistants to work in the burgeoning LNC industry, where you can serve as an expert advisor or researcher on medical issues for law firms, health care providers, insurance companies and governmental agencies. The six-day program is held over three weekends, teaching about legal concepts related to the health care industry. Also included is the role a LNC plays in litigation, perhaps as an expert witness in medical malpractice, toxic torts, products liability, personal injury, emotional distress, wrongful death and other types of cases. The curriculum complies with educational guidelines established by the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants, and is offered in cooperation with The Center for Legal Studies.
Legal Secretary Training Course (CERT 602) This intensive program is designed for both beginning and experienced secretaries who are interested in improving their skills and working more efficiently within a law office. Students will study such topics as: legal terminology; legal process; jurisdiction and venue; ethics; written communications including letters, pleadings, discovery, notices and motions; filing procedures, billing and accounting; time management; records management; computers, word and data processing; legal research; memoranda preparation, and citation format.
Loan Origination Training (CERT 611) Learn the skills necessary to become a loan originator for mortgage brokers. Employers are always looking for qualified candidates and this 4-week program can prepare you to apply for employment with existing mortgage brokers. Or you can use this insightful training as a gateway to a career as a successful independent contractor, where you determine your own hours and workload. The class also provides great insight for the state licensing exam.
Loan Processing Training (CERT 612) Loan processors are in demand, and this 4-week training course can help you launch a career as a successful loan processor. Become prepared to apply for a job with an existing mortgage broker, or ultimately become an independent contractor where you determine your own hours and workload.
Paralegal Training Course (CERT 601) New employment doors can swing open with the Paralegal Training Course at Joliet Junior College, offered in partnership with the Center for Legal Studies. Students will learn how to interview witnesses, investigate complex fact patterns, research the law, prepare legal documents, and assist in preparing cases for courtroom litigation. The instruction is practice-oriented and relates to those areas of law in which paralegals are most highly needed. This 6-weekend course is ideal for administrative assistants looking to work at a law firm, current legal secretaries looking to expand their training and responsibilities, and those seeking entry-level positions.
Fundamentals of Quality Control (CQS 1029) The course can be used as an introduction of quality tools for new employees, refresher training for employees with some background in quality, or as a starting point for an individual interested in an entry level position in the quality field. Materials are based on the American Society for Quality (ASQ)’s body of knowledge and provide an excellent preparation resource for the Certified Quality Improvement Associate (CQIA) certification exam.
